San Francisco • March 4, 2021

The former federal prosecutor and veteran general counsel joins Bitwise’s leadership team as the firm enters a new phase of growth.

Bitwise Asset Management, a leading crypto asset manager, announced today that it has hired Katherine Dowling as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

Dowling brings more than two decades of experience to Bitwise, including 10 years prosecuting complex financial crimes in the United States Attorney’s Office and as an executive leader in both early-stage and well-established private equity and wealth management firms.

“We are delighted to have Katherine join the Bitwise leadership team. Her unique blend of experiences and capabilities connect several of the most important vantage points for understanding and leading the development of the emerging crypto asset class,” said Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley. “Having Katherine onboard will significantly accelerate our growth as we bring high quality crypto funds to investment professionals within the existing and evolving domestic regulatory landscape.”

A Harvard Law graduate, Dowling served as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Economic Crimes Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California from 2003 to 2014, where she played a key role in prosecuting insider trading, Ponzi schemes, identity theft, and fraud cases, among others.

Dowling went on to leadership roles as Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for Luminate Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on the software space, and True Capital Management, a $1+ billion financial advisory firm focused on the sudden-wealth market.

At Bitwise, Dowling will help drive the company’s efforts to provide high quality crypto funds to the professional investment community. Bitwise’s assets under management (AUM) recently crossed over $1 billion, with record inflows across the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund (OTCQX: BITW), the Bitwise DeFi Crypto Index Fund, the Bitwise Bitcoin Fund, and the Bitwise Ethereum Fund. The firm plans to introduce additional funds and strategies in the coming months.

Currently a team of 14, Bitwise is expanding rapidly, with several open roles across portfolio management, engineering, investor relations, sales, and research.
